Cold and Flu Season is Approaching

The strength of our immune system is dependent on how much we use it, just like that old adage, if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. After years of wearing masks and practicing social distancing, our immune systems have had a long break from working to protect us. And a strong immune system is so important. It helps us fight off viruses, bacteria and other organisms that have the potential to make us, and our family members, sick. Now is the time to start thinking about building our immune systems, whether it’s for cold and flu prevention or to finally get rid of that pesky cough that just won’t go away.

Treating Colds & Flu Wholistically

Homeopaths can offer a cold and flu season protocol to help you build your immune system and heal more quickly for when you do get sick. In addition to homeopathics, Vitamin D is a big part of the immune picture, along with a few other essential cold and flu fighting vitamins and minerals. There are also some lifestyle choices to support healthy immune function such as getting enough sleep, avoiding high sugar and overly processed foods, managing stress, and spending time outdoors.

But sometimes life gets in the way. Work becomes busy, our toddler stops sleeping suddenly (probably teething, see my blog for top toddler remedies), and we just really need that piece of chocolate cake… every day this week. Luckily, homeopathy can restore our immune system so we can fight off infection and recover optimally when we do get sick.

Did you know? Homeopathy is covered by many insurance plans

Did you know that homeopathy became a regulated profession in Ontario in 2007 and now is covered by many extended health care benefit packages? Some companies that include homeopathic coverage in some of their packages are Sunlife, Blue Cross, Manulife, and Green Shields.

Patients are encouraged to reach out to their insurance provider and enquire. Alternatively, some companies may have extended health spending accounts which homeopathy can be claimed under. And if not covered, be proactive! Request that homeopathy be included in your coverage or seek out a broker who can help you find coverage.

TIP: Starting to feel run down? Sometimes a few doses of the tissue salt Ferrum Phos can stave off your cold before it takes hold. Want to chat more about staying healthy this season? Email me at to book a complimentary call to learn about how I can help.
